BMW Motorrad has given its six-cylinder touring mount, the K1600GT, a freshening for 2017. The 1649cc mount gets some tweaks to ensure Euro4 emissions compliance, along with a few new rider convenience options.
The engine has new mapping settings to meet the EU4 standards, and new catalytic converters included in the exhaust system.
With a curb weight of just over 730 pounds, the K1600GT can be a bit of a brute when duck-walking around the parking lot. That’s why BMW added reverse assist as optional equipment. When included with the bike, reverse assist can be activated via a button on the left of the handlebar, engaging a reverse gear. Movement is then started when the rider presses the starter motor button.
Another optional upgrade is the Shift Assist Pro system, which allows for clutchless movement up and down the gearbox. Intelligent Emergency Call is another optional upgrade, which automatically alerts authorities of an accident when sensors detect a collision or crash. At the launch of the new 2017 K1600GT, Germany will be the only country to provide the IEC service but BMW promises that other countries will follow.
Electronically controlled suspension is standard on the 2017 K1600GT, providing Road and Dynamic adjustment modes. Damping is automatically adjusted in the Road setting and the rider can alter spring preload by the press of a button. In Dynamic mode damping can be adjusted by the rider with the press of a button as well on the fly. The K1600GT retains the BMW Motorrad Duolever front set-up and Paralever rear suspension.
Returning elements of interest to long-distance touring riders include a large seven-gallon fuel tank, BMW Motorrad ABS, optional BMW Dynamic Traction Control and a sizable selection of factory accessories like alarm and audio systems, luggage options, new seats, crash bars, navigation systems, additional LED lights and much more.
The trim and bodywork has been updated for 2017 and new colorways will be available, a Mars Red metallic, Blackstorm metallic and Lupine Blue metallic/Blackstorm metallic. The 2017 BMW K1600GT spec sheet is included below and we’ll update pricing and availability when its released.
