If you’re a city dweller, Yamaha offers an easier way life with the introduction of its XMAX scooter ($5599). Imported from the bustling streets of Europe, the XMAX features an no fuss, no muss design ideal for around town commutes.
The XMAX is powered by a clean-running and highway-capable 292cc Single-cylinder engine. In typical scooter fashion, its outfitted with a turn and burn style CVT automated transmission— so there is no gears to shift or clutch lever to mess with.
Press the engine’s electric start button, twist the throttle and go! The XMAX offers up to 75 mpg claims Yamaha with minimal associated maintenance costs. Fuel capacity is listed at 3.4-gallon.
Traction control and ABS-equipped disc brakes further elevate ease of use—especially on rain-drenched surfaces. LED lighting helps it stand out during night rides as well as providing a bright swath of forward light.
Of course comfort and convenience are paramount in a scooter. As such, this Yammie boasts a manually adjustable windscreen and handlebar. Perhaps more importantly, it also offers a key-less fob type “smart key” allowing access to the huge under seat storage compartment capable of swallowing two full-faces helmets, or a case of… soda. There’s additional storage inside the cockpit as well as a 12-volt power point to charge phones, etc.
The 397-pounds scoot rolls on a 15-inch front and 14-inch rear wheel shod with Dunlop’s latest and greatest ScootSmart rubber. A conventionally mounted fork (4.3 in. travel) and a pair of shocks (3.1 in. travel) provide motorcycle-like road holding while maintaining the choppy road friendly ride quality of a scooter. The XMAX arrives at US Yamaha dealers next month.
