Harley-Davidson introduces a new 749cc-powered (46 cubic-inch) middleweight sourcing a High Output version of its Revolution X 60-degree V-Twin engine. The 2017 Street Rod is styled like H-D’s trendy FXR motorcycle from the ‘90s but with modern conveniences like fuel-injection, liquid-cooling, partial LED lighting, and of course, a two-year, unlimited mileage warranty.
“The Street Rod will put the thrill in any urban commute,” says Mathew Weber, the man behind the new Street Rod. “We’ve paired the potent new High Output Revolution X 750 engine with a revised chassis and up-rated suspension components to make the Street Rod quick, light-handling and easy to ride.”
The HO Revolution engine differs from the standard configuration by way of a larger airbox and revised “dual-throat” throttle body setup. The engine’s top-end has also been tweaked with reshaped cylinder heads and a higher lift camshaft. The engine’s compression ratio has increased by a full point, and redline has bumped up by 1000 revs to 9000 rpm.
“We’ve improved air flow and then tuned this new engine to maximize mid-range torque,” Weber tells. “It really delivers a punch between 3000 and 5000 rpm, power you can always feel and use in real-world riding situations. Liquid cooling helps maintain that performance and rider comfort in stop-and-go urban traffic.”
All said, Harley claims its HO engine produces 18% more horsepower and 8% additional torque compared to the standard Revolution X 750 engine.
The chassis has also been upgraded for sportier handling. Steering head geometry is sharper and new suspension components boost cornering clearance by over 30%. Full-size bike 17-inch cast aluminum rims are now standard and shod in Michelin Scorcher rubber. Dual front disc brakes give added stopping power and benefit from always-on ABS.
The ergonomics have been adjusted as well, facilitating a real, big bike feel. The seat is taller and a flat handlebar positions the rider in a more assertive stance. The foot controls are now fabricated from forged aluminum bits.
The 2017 Street Rod will arrive at Harley-Davidson dealers this April in three colors (Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim, and Olive Gold) carrying a price of $8699 — a $1150 premium over the more basic Street 750.
