The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has released a recall notice for 2015-2016 Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycles due to a potential fuel leak issue. According to the notice, “engine vibration can cause the fuel tank fitting bracket to contact the fuel tank,” which in turn, over time, can damage the tank and increases the risk of a leak. Yamaha cites 14,320 units potentially affected by the problem.
Yamaha plans to notify owners of affected models and dealers will replace the fuel tank bracket. Dealers will also inspect and replace any damaged fuel tanks, all free of charge. Owners can contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha’s recall ID is 990112.
