Yamaha have been developing its MOTOBOT for a few years now, with the aim of creating an autonomous humanoid robot that can control an unmodified motorcycle. The ultimate goal is to use the information and technologies gleaned from the project to “develop higher performing and safer forms of mobility.”
What’s more, and perhaps more interesting to those of us that like some good ol’ fashioned competition, is the chance to pit the machine against a real human. And not just any human, but one of the best motorcycle riders/racers of all time. Valentino Rossi.
This opportunity isn’t lost on Yamaha. Part of the brand’s plan for this year’s Tokyo Motor Show is to give fans a chance to weigh in on whether man or machine will prevail in a timed lap around a racetrack. As of the writing of this article Rossi far outpaces MOTOBOT in votes, but we won’t know which is fastest until October 25. If you want your voice to be heard, there’s still time. Check out the MOTOBOT v Rossi page and make your choice.
