BMW Motorrad have issued another recall for a potentially non-compliant rear reflector, affecting 1478 F800GT (2014-2016 model year) and F800R (2015-2016 model year) motorcycles. Previously BMW recalled almost 30,000 motorcycles for a similar oversight, though in that case it was owing to blocked reflectors when optional aluminum luggage cases were installed.
The most recent recall is the result of a redesigned license plate bracket, introduced into motorcycle assembly March 7, 2014. According to the defect notice, “a license plate requirement required by Chinese regulations” caused an inadvertent impact on US spec motorcycles.
Dealers are being instructed to modify the license plate holder to reposition the rear side reflex reflectors, free of charge. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for more information.
