BMW of North America has issued a recall notice through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more than 14,000 R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure motorcycles. According to the NHTSA report, “the motorcycle fixed fork tube may separate from the pressed in seal plug that secures the tube to the upper triple clamp.”
Affected models include 6958 2014-2017 BMW R1200GS motorcycles and 7668 2014-2017 R1200GS Adventure motorcycles. Production dates for the standard GS range from October 28, 2013 to June 19, 2017 while Adventure models produced May 13, 2013 to June 19, 2017 are included.
The Recall Report explains that BMW will retrofit “an additional fixed fork tube bush according to the workshop manual.” In the even that damage is too severe, “the fixed fork tubes will be replaced by corresponding modified new parts.”
