Alpinestars has expanded and updated its gear collection for fall 2017, and now includes Tech Air Race Airbag System compatible garments (read the Tech Air Race Vest Preview). A wide range of pieces ranging from touring kit to race suits, street wear to sport apparel are all touched on, however we’re going to dive deeper into the Missile Leather Jacket in particular below. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and we’ll answer ‘em for you.
Missile Leather Jacket
The Missile Leather Jacket is one of the Tech Air Race Airbag System compatible pieces that’s designed to be worn as a stand-alone jacket as well and still live up to its CE-safety certification. The exterior is full grain bovine leather, and incorporates four-way Hyper-Res Stretch fiber panels on the back and underarms for improved fit, comfort and to allow for safe deployment of the airbag in the event of a crash. Accordion panels behind the shoulders and above the elbows add to the flexibility of the jacket.
Impact protection comes by way of race-derived CE-approved shoulder and elbow armor, external DFS dual density TPU shoulder and elbow sliders and poly-foam padding in the chest and back protector compartments. Riders can upgrade to Nucleon CE-Level 2 armor in the chest and back if desired. The airbag system has a CE Level-2 back protector built-into it too, so when the vest is installed additional back protection is provided.
It’s designed as a performance fit piece, and comes with an ergonomic back hump designed to maximize airflow and aerodynamics at higher speeds. There are creature comforts too, including exterior perforations, a soft internal mesh lining and 3D textured fabric at the collar.
The hand warmer pockets, primary jacket opening, interior waterproof pocket along with the waist connection make use of premium YKK zippers.
Sizes range from Euro 48 to 60 and pricing starts at $599.95.
