Last week Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi suffered a broken tibia and fibula of the right leg in an enduro training accident. He was rushed to surgery and soon after discharged to begin the recovery process, but the Yamaha ace will need a bit more time to get on his feet, according to the latest update from the team. Rossi will sit out the upcoming race at Misano, leaving his teammate, Maverick Vinales, the sole flag bearer for Movistar Yamaha. The full press release announcing Rossi’s current status is included below. Rossi was fourth in championship points at the time of his injury, 26 adrift of the current leader, Andrea Dovizioso.
The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team regrets to report that Valentino Rossi will not be able to compete in the upcoming Gran Premio Tribul Mastercard di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, to be held this weekend.
The Factory Yamaha team will compete in round 13 of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship with Maverick Viñales as its sole rider.
